Soil Testing

In order to be considered buildable, a lot or parcel of land not connected to public sewer must meet minimum guidelines for private wastewater disposal. These guidelines are technical in nature and must be determined by either a licensed Site Evaluator or Soil Scientist. Soil testing involves digging or excavating a hole in the ground and analyzing the soil conditions to determine their suitability for wastewater disposal. A site evaluator or soil scientist can perform a "preliminary" site evaluation to determine generally whether soils are suitable to waste water disposal. A site evaluator or soil scientist can also perform a full septic system design. A full system design involves locating and designing an actual septic system for a home. Fees for a septic system design vary by consultant but generally fall in the $250 to $300 range. Fees for "preliminary" site evaluations are usually somewhat less.
