Municipal Land Use Zoning Ordinances

Local town governments frequently zone land in organized towns through the right of Home Rule. Land use zoning laws provide for what types of activities can occur in certain areas. In addition, zoning laws frequently establish minimum land area, setback requirements, and other requirements for activities such as building. Administering and enforcing the Town's land use ordinances is usually the responsibility of the town's Code Enforcement Officer. Should you have any questions regarding allowable uses for your property, the Code Enforcement Officer is a good place to start. A few towns have their Municipal Ordinances Online.
